CUSTOMERS ARE ASKED TO HELP PLACE TRASH/RECYCLING CARTS PROPERLY AT CURBSIDE

The City of Douglas along with Transwaste/Waste Industries would like to encourage citizens to be conscious of how trash/recycling carts are placed at the curbside for collection and how trash/recyclables are placed properly in the cart for pickup.  One of the biggest errors occurring from customers are trash and recycling carts being placed backwards and placing trash/recyclables around or on top of carts.

“We are experiencing a problem with trash and recycling carts being placed improperly at the curbside,” says Anthony Kirkland, Interim Public Works Director.  “If citizens continue to improperly place carts, that trash or recycling cart will not be emptied. Also, it is the citizens’ responsibility to only place recyclables in the recycling cart which has a blue lid.”

Customers should place cart in proper position for side loader trucks to empty carts.  Cart should be placed at curbside with wheels facing away from the curb and front of cart facing street.  Failing to place the cart properly will result in the cart not being emptied on pickup day.  After pickup, remove the trash/recycling cart from curbside no later than 6:00am following pickup day.

Please remember to place debris in a trash bag prior to placing in the receptacle and properly place cart on day of pickup.  Failing to bag trash prior to placement in the container, will cause excess litter/debris on streets and yards.  Do not overfill the cart causing the lid to not close.  Trash/recycling carts should not have bags on top of them or trash debris and recycling materials surrounding them.  Transwaste personnel will not pick up any excess trash/recyclables that are not in the recycling cart. Recycling carts should not contain food products or household garbage.  All plastic and metal containers should be rinsed with water prior to placing in recyclable carts.  For a full listing of recyclables, please visit the website at www.cityofdouglas.com/recycling

To report repairs for trash or recycling carts within the city limits of Douglas, please call 311 or 912-384-3302.  If you live outside the city limits and need to report a repair for your trash cart, please contact Transwaste at call (912) 383-1303.

MOSQUITO CONTROL
DMPLogo.jpg
Citizens can control mosquitoes by removing standing or stagnant water that can be found in birdbaths, swimming pools, wheelbarrows, ceramic pots, pet dishes, etc. Eliminating tall grass, weeds, and excess vegetation around your home will also help to control mosquitoes.  To protect your family from “the bite”, stay indoors at dawn, dusk, and early evening when mosquitoes are more active and remember to apply insect repellent.
