Douglas 101 is an educational experience for the citizens of Douglas. This
program is for individuals who have a sincere interest in Douglas’ community and want to become educated on how our City government operates.
Participants enjoy learning about their local government and the services it provides. Elected officials, department directors and other city staff will host unique and informative sessions designed to give citizens hands-on experience in city government operations. Additionally, they will be encouraged to take an active role in their neighborhood and town.
The City of Douglas Citizen’s Academy provides individuals the opportunity to:
- Learn, participate and contribute in daily city problems and duties.
- Establish networking opportunities between you, the resident and your city management.
- To help, understand and resolve problems on your own or in cooperation with others.
This is a free class for citizens 18 years of age and up. The course meets for 10 sessions that will be held on Tuesdays from 6:00pm – 8:00pm, including one Saturday tour. Students are permitted to miss two classes and still graduate the course. Students must also attend an advisory committee meeting and a Board of Commissioners Briefing and Business Session.
Every class is packed with activities and information. Classes are interactive with opportunities to ask questions and give feedback. Students will tour town facilities and view equipment used by various departments in their specialized fields.
