In an effort to increase community involvement and implement positive changes in neighborhoods throughout the city, the Mayor and Board of Commissioners
approved the implementation of the Neighborhood Involvement Program (NIP). NIP is basically a tool, whereby residents and city staff will work together to
improve neighborhoods. In order to implement NIP, the city has been
divided into 11 zones with the initial primary focus being Code Enforcement and Public Safety.
Residents will be encouraged to establish Neighborhood Watch Programs with the assistance of the Douglas Police Department. The NIP program is designed to make City officials and staff aware of needs or issues that exist in the neighborhoods that may be corrected or planned for in the annual budget process.
